On 26 June this year, the Royal Leonardo Hotel City London hosted the UK Power Networks (UKPN) Graduation Event.
Graduates dressed in their hats and gowns, excitedly waiting to receive their certificates for completing their apprenticeship from Basil Scarsella, the CEO of UKPN.
The graduation event marked a significant milestone for all attendees, especially for cohort 8, who all achieved a distinction. It clearly demonstrated UKPN's investment in their staff, their commitment to apprenticeships, and recognised the close relationship that ÃÛÌÒapp TQ have formed with them as a training provider.Ìý
The 2025 event held special significance as an award was given in honour of Ginny Baker, a cherished colleague who sadly passed away last year. Many learners from her last cohort were also present, receiving their awards and celebrating their achievements.Ìý
Two noteworthy learners, Luke Shields and Emily Draper, received their awards at the event. Completing the Level 5 Operations & Departmental Manager Apprenticeship has given them the skills and confidence to excel in their careers now and in the future.Ìý

ÃÛÌÒapp, the world’s lifelong learning company, will become one of the British Army’s largest apprenticeship partners, after winning three new contracts to deliver the courses with the UK’s Ministry of Defence.
The Army is one of the biggest apprenticeship providers in the country, giving learners the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge beyond combat. An army apprenticeship provider since 2010, ÃÛÌÒapp TQ will now hold six contracts in total - delivering logistics, healthcare, intelligence, business admin and HR, construction, engineering, policing and veterinary services programmes to around 4,000 learners each year.
The new contracts will see ÃÛÌÒapp TQ providing apprenticeships in the following sectors of the armed forces over the next six years:
In the Catering Training Wing, where students will develop skills in professional cooking, kitchen management, food safety, and facilities supervision, gaining industry-recognised catering and health and safety qualifications.
In the Royal Military Police, where apprentices will be trained in detainee management, military law enforcement, investigation techniques, and conflict resolution, earning policing and security-related certifications.
In the Royal Armoured Corps, where students will receive training in vehicle maintenance, engineering operations, and military animal care, equipping apprentices with hands-on technical and welfare skills.
Within the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, where apprentices will gain expertise in farriery, military animal training, and welfare, developing specialist skills in hoof care, animal behaviour, and obedience training.
Martyn Leader, Vice President of ÃÛÌÒapp TQ, said: “We are delighted to extend our long-standing and successful partnership with British Army apprentices. These new contracts are another step forwards on ÃÛÌÒapp’s journey to build on its early careers offer. From logistics and business admin, to catering or veterinary care, these courses are a fantastic path for a diverse range of learners who want to earn while they learn, boost their skillsets and open doors to new opportunities and career paths.â€
A spokesperson for the Army said: “Apprenticeships are fundamental to the Army recruiting offer with over 95% of new joiners enrolling on an apprenticeship. This is the first step of a soldier’s learning journey, the Army invests significantly in skills, education and training through apprenticeships and pathways to higher education. This enables us to create high-performing and technologically astute operators for the future workforce. We look forward to continuing our relationship with ÃÛÌÒapp TQ.â€

The apprenticeship has helped me to meet different people - even though we are from the same organisation, we are from a variety of departments that work in different ways. Getting that feel of how other departments are working and how other people are thinking is really helpful.â€
I find the classroom sessions really helpful with doing the research activity packs which then helps doing the assignments. I’ve learnt things that I wasn’t aware of before – the theory side of things for example, and so I know how to put that into practice and my confidence has grown. I am currently working towards a management role and have learned a lot which will help me once I’ve finished the apprenticeship.â€
[My ÃÛÌÒapp TQ Skills Coach] has been absolutely fantastic throughout my time on programme. I really don’t think I could have done it without her knowledge, expertise, calm attitude and sense of humour along the way. I’m certain I’ve become a better manager over the last two years, and I have her to thank for much of this.
[My ÃÛÌÒapp TQ Skills Coach] dedication and availability have been outstanding, offering invaluable mentorship and expertise whenever needed. Her commitment to my development has empowered me to acquire new skills and grow both personally and professionally... You have been an incredible source of encouragement and guidance, helping me navigate challenges and achieve my goals.
Really appreciate the support provided by everyone involved from ÃÛÌÒapp and Thales. Proper guidance at every stage made it very easy for all of us to achieve this positive result. The programme was really very well structured, and I can clearly see the difference in my contribution in the workplace because of it.
ÃÛÌÒapp TQ really stuck out from the rest of the [Training Provider] offers mainly in the way that they offered to collaborate in design and delivery and implementation of the programmes... that align to our Apprenticeship Strategy. 2 years later I view TQ as our most valued Apprenticeship partner.
From the beginning, ÃÛÌÒapp TQ took the time to understand our needs as a 24-hour business, adapting to our busy periods and priorities. Their commitment to flexibility and open communication has been key to building trust. They listen, act on feedback, and stay responsive, making them a reliable partner.
The quality of apprenticeships and level of communication by far exceeds any other provider, and I really appreciate all the work you all put in. All of the learners who are enrolled with you say how they enjoy the course and the support they get.
During her progress review today, Nicola explained that her team is the highest performing team in her service and is now seen as the gold standard for all other teams! This change has occurred over the last 12 months and both Nicola and her line manager stated that they felt that the apprenticeship programme has been instrumental over the past six months in supporting this change.
A lot of the people that have been on the programme have actually moved into people manager roles ... it's helped them to deliver their aspirations to be a people manager and also equips them well enough to feel confident enough to go into those roles and actually make a difference.
