The recent move to online courses for so many higher ed institutions presentsa number of challenges. The addition of moving to online course delivery for a corequisite course presents even more. Corequisite courses entail embedding prerequisite remediation within a college-level course. In this webinar, Mari Menard, a math professor at Lone Star College–Kingwood, will discuss the challenges and planning process for implementing a corequisite course completely online.

Mari Menard

Mari Menard earned bachelor’s and master of science degrees in mathematics from Lamar University – Beaumont, in Beaumont, TX. She is a professor of mathematics at Lone Star College – Kingwood, in Kingwood, Texas. Mari is the math lab faculty liaison for the Math Learning Support Lab at her campus, affording her the opportunity to work with tutors and students alike enrolled in college math courses. She is an active member of AMATYC, currently the AMATYC traveling workshop coordinator.

Her own experiences in college allowed her to find her love of mathematics and a knack for helping her fellow students. She believes that students must build and nurture their math skills, what she terms their “math ego”, stay positive, work hard, and success follows. She works with other math faculty at her college to determine content and implementation strategies for corequisite courses and is currently teaching her second semester of corequisite courses. She believes in learning from all experiences, enjoys time with her husband, and playing golf.
