ÃÛÌÒapp's Functional Skills Bitesize Webinars
Hello and welcome to the ÃÛÌÒapp Functional Skills blog for February 2025. This month we will be introducing a new series of support webinars for our Functional Skills qualifications.
Starting in February 2025, we will be launching a new YouTube playlist for Functional Skills that will focus on shorter webinars across the following four topics:
- Ask The Examiner
- You Are The Assessor
- Teaching The Fundamentals
- Resource Review
This playlist will be regularly updated, but don’t worry, we will still be continuing our long form webinars on our other playlist that you can access here:Ìý. These videos are based on our national training events that we run in Spring and Autumn (The Festival of Functionality).
Ask The Examiner
Our Ask The Examiner videos will look at commonly asked questions about our assessments and learner work and will be organised around a theme or subject. Our first video looks at three questions regarding Functional Skills Writing at Level 1 and 2 and focuses on Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar and can be accessed here:Ìý. Future videos will include Speaking, Listening and Communicating at Level 1 and 2, Digital Functional Skills and Functional Skills maths. If you have any questions or topics you would like to ask, and for us to answer, please use this form:Ìý
You Are The Assessor
Our You Are The Assessor bitesize videos will work alongside our You Are The Assessor resources. These are exemplar materials based on real learner work. Each one of these videos will focus on a particular question or level and will look at learner responses. It will ask you to assess the learner’s work before giving you feedback from examiners and Standard Verifiers as to what each learner did achieve. These resources are released on a Monday via my LinkedIn page. The first video, looking at Entry 3 Functional Skills English writing is available here:Ìý. A pdf version of the examplar resource is also available on our website here:Ìý.
Teaching The Fundamentals
The Teaching The Fundamentals webinars look at certain aspects of teaching and learning across the Functional Skills English, Maths and Digital Curriculum. Each video focuses on assessment issues that learners have and how these can be addressed in both the classroom and the assessments themselves. The first of these looks at Comparing Ideas in Functional Skills Level 2 Reading assessments and provides a commentary on the mistakes the learners make, what they should be doing and a plan for answering these questions successfully. This video can be accessed here:Ìý. Future videos will include ones on compound interest and pie charts for Functional Skills maths.
Resource Review
The Resource Review bitesize webinars cover two strands. In the first, we look at a series of similar resouces produced by ÃÛÌÒapp and look at what their purpose is and how they can be used with learners. The first of these is a review of our Numberless Problem-Solving resources. You can access this video here:Ìý. The second strand is a monthly round up of all our new resources for the previous month across Functional Skills English, Maths and Digital. The Resource Review for January 2025 is now live and looks at six English resources and 3 maths resources. This video is available here:Ìý.
The overall purpose of these videos is to provide easy to access (and short) resources to support tutors and learners with Functional Skills. We hope you enjoy them and find them useful, and we look forward to your feedback.
